What started out as a DIY eventually turned into quite an adventure. I found I had a leak somewhere in my pool because for the past 4 months I have had to top it up with water every week (at least 5 000 L) which increased my water bill considerably. The problem was that I could not locate the leak.
My friend Ralton, who specializes in pools, came over and had a look. We found the leak near the weir of the pool and set about fixing that. We also found the bearings on the motor had become stiff so I had that fixed. However it still leaked!
One day, my wife and I look at these 2 holes around the pool (where we had dug up to find the leak) and saw something...
Swimming Pool Leak!
...really strange. Water was leaking away from the pump towards the pool and running along the shale rock. It turned out that the underground pipes had been fastened by clamps and these had rusted! After some DIY for 3 hours and much complaining I called a pool company (Pool & Spa Centre at Waterglen) to come fix it and within 1hour I had a fixed pool. It’s been 3 weeks of bliss & a full pool! (Aug ‘10)
